Good generator with durable decent parts. We have it for about a year living in Florida, not a problem ever. I would recommend changing oil to Mobile Delvac 1300 Super SAE 15W-40 Nascar synthetic after just first few hours, and be certain you run it twice a month in so called "train" mode, which means 30 minutes run with the load of about 2k watts, or something like deep fryer load. We sometimes do the laundry on it for that purpose just for fun - figure if I run it in train mode, let it earn its keep and power washing machine plus the fryer when do breaded chicken legs. Starting battery will run down if connected all the time because of radio receiver starter, so take one clamp off if not in use. This is not a problem if you simply take care of things and use your head. The unit is very, very heavy. This means about 400 lbs, but it can be moved by a child because of ball bearings supported HD rubber wheels. No big deal. Your choices in generators are simple: petrol run disposables that give nasty noisy and are cheaper and ... disposable after about 2 seasons, then the portable Diesels like this one, and commercial diesel type stationary installed for starting price of about 6k. This unit is not low RPM model from the 50's so do not expect it to last for 75 years, but with proper maintenance it is the best generator for the money. The so called "Silent ..." please take with the grain of salt. It is not exactly very loud, but is far from silent. From out experience if you run it 25 feet from home and close the doors, then you can still watch the TV without complaining about the noise. This is air cooled Diesel, not a Mercedes Benz. One more thing - Diesel and kerosene and so called heating oil are very close relatives, which means safe for storage and does not deteriorate. I use Diesel in kerosene lamp now and then if outside, very similar carbon chain oil. The exhaust fumes smell from this generator if you never run Diesel takes getting used to and is rather interesting unless you are prima Donna that only likes roses and asparagus. Now about the company: we needed filter and o-rings from Ramsond - and found company to be very professional and knowledgeable. One last thing - made in China parts some complain about. Yes, core of engine and generator wiring are made in China, just like your phone, computer monitor, TV set, microwave oven, airplane navigational system and car ignition. Should I say more or is it enough of mild sarcasm? Granted there is paper mache junk out there, we all know it, we had seen it, and many are made in China or other similar environments. We found this generator to be good, and well worth the cost, not a toy; responding, decent and you have responsible company behind it.
Bottom line - if you need portable (hmm.. 400 lbs.. LOL) Diesel generator in good quality, you may want to get this one from Ramsond. It does work.
